This is the Purple Haze build (continued).

Since it's Josh's guitar, he got to pick the finish, and he chose a purple dye and a glossy nitrocellulose clear coat. And since he chose the finish, I recruited him to do some of the finishing work.

We carefully de-dustified the air in the shop, and hung the guitar up to spray the nitro. We applied 4 coats over a couple days, then wet-sanded out the orange peel. Then 3 more coats over the next couple days, followed by 4 weeks in a dry closet to cure.

At this point, the heavy lifting is done, and focus shifts from working the wood out in the shop, to electrics and details (apparently at the kitchen table). We split the effort here - I got the cavities lined and installed the pickups and controls, then Josh took over to handle the wiring. I'm not too proud to say that the kid is better with a soldering iron than I am!

All that remains from a build perspective is a custom headstock decal, and a hand shaped bone nut.

This is a photo-heavy build, so to help out our fans with slower connections...
